Shopping for a piano player can be harder than it looks. Unless you play yourself, it’s tough to tell which accessories will get used every week and which will end up in a drawer. A piano-themed mug is fun, but I’m partial to gifts that make practice a little easier.
I’ve spent years watching what helps my students and what doesn’t. Here are eight Christmas gifts for piano players I’d happily put under the tree, whether you’re buying for a beginner, a returning adult, or someone who just loves time at the keyboard.

1. BestSounds Piano Bag — For the Student Who Has Books Everywhere
Every student I teach ends up with a pile: the lesson book, the theory workbook, and whatever extra sheet music I handed over last week. A bag that keeps it all together saves a lot of “I left it at home” moments.
This tote has a zippered main compartment that fits three to four hardcover books, plus a front Velcro pocket and an inside zipper pocket for small things. The waterproof Oxford cloth wipes clean, which matters for anything that rides along to lessons. It comes in nine colors and designs, so it’s easy to match to the student.
BestSounds Piano Bag A durable, water-resistant music tote with a note-shaped zipper pull, designed to carry lesson books and everyday essentials in style.
- Waterproof Oxford cloth is tear- and scratch-resistant and wipes clean easily
- Main zippered compartment fits 3-4 hardcover books, with a front Velcro pocket and inside zipper pocket
- Two sturdy handles allow hand carrying or wearing over the shoulder
- Works for piano lessons or everyday errands, and makes a thoughtful gift for music teachers, students, and musicians
- Available in 9 colors and designs
2. Korg MA-2 Digital Metronome — For the Pianist Working on Timing
Almost everyone speeds up on the passage they find hardest, which is exactly why I recommend a metronome for students who are old enough to use it properly. It’s not a flashy present, but it’s one of the most useful ones.
The Korg MA-2 is small and has a buzzer designed to be heard over loud instruments. It has tap tempo, a timer mode for tracking practice sessions, and a larger display than earlier models. It also runs up to 400 hours on alkaline batteries, so nobody is hunting for a charger before a lesson.
Korg MA-2 Digital Metronome A compact, easy-to-read digital metronome from Korg with a loud, clear buzzer and a long-lasting battery, built for daily practice with any instrument.
- Larger display with visual beat indicators, plus a redesigned electronic buzzer that cuts through loud or high-pitched instruments
- Pendulum, Full Step, and Tap Tempo modes, with time signatures from 0 to 9 beats and 8 rhythm types
- Timer mode tracks practice sessions, and sound out mode provides a steady tone for tuning; switch between modes with the MODE button
- Up to 400 hours of continuous use on alkaline batteries, with an on-screen indicator when it’s time to replace them
- Pocket-sized at 2.36 x 0.63 x 3.94 inches; available in red and blac
3. Vekkia Rechargeable Music Stand Light — For Evening Practice
Plenty of piano students practice after dinner, or if adults, after the kids are in bed. This often occurs under a lamp that lights the wall better than the page. A clip-on light fixes that for very little money.
The Vekkia has 64 LEDs, and its arms swing open to cover a full page of sheet music. You get five brightness levels and three color temperatures, and an anti-glare fin keeps the light on the music and out of everyone’s eyes. It charges over USB-C, and the listing says it lasts up to 140 hours on the lowest setting. That makes it a good gift choice for the pianist who’s always reading in a dim corner.
Vekkia 64 Led Rechargeable Music Stand Light A portable clip-on lamp with a fold-out scissor-style head that lights a full page of sheet music while keeping glare away from the audience.
- Swing-open 180° arms unfold for full-page illumination and fold down for storage; 64 SMD LEDs provide wide, even light
- 5 brightness levels and 3 color temperatures (15 combinations total): click once to change brightness, hold for 2 seconds to switch color temperature
- Anti-glare back fin directs light onto the music and away from the audience
- Clamp grips music stands, pianos, or desks, with an anti-slip rubber strip to protect surfaces; includes carrying bag
- Rechargeable battery runs up to 140 hours at low brightness and charges via USB-C (cable included, AC adapter not included)
4. Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Headphones — For the Digital Piano Player
The best thing about a digital piano is practicing at 10 p.m. without bothering anyone. That only works with decent headphones, and they’re one of the items I suggest to families who’ve just bought a keyboard.
The ATH-M20x is a closed-back, over-ear studio headphone with 40 mm drivers, so it blocks a good amount of outside noise. The 3-meter cable has a single-sided exit, and a 6.3 mm adapter is included in addition to the standard 3.5 mm plug. Check which headphone jack the instrument has before you order.
Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Pro Studio Headphones A closed-back studio monitor headphone from Audio-Technica, built for tracking and mixing with enhanced low-end response and strong isolation in loud environments.
- 40 mm drivers with rare earth magnets and copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils, tuned for enhanced low-frequency performance
- Circumaural (over-ear) design contours around the ears for sound isolation in loud settings
- 47 ohm impedance and a 3 m cable with a convenient single-side exit
- Works with any device that has a 3.5 mm jack, including computers, phones with headphone jacks, gaming devices, digital pianos, and other audio gear
- Includes a 6.3 mm adapter for amps, turntables, and other pro equipment
5. M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal — For the Keyboard Player Ready to Upgrade
Many entry-level keyboards ship with a flimsy foot switch that slides across the floor mid-piece. A real pedal can make playing feel much closer to an acoustic piano, and I’d call it one of the most underrated piano accessories.
The SP-2 has a piano-style chrome pedal and rubber pads underneath that keep it in place. A polarity switch lets it work with most electronic keyboards, and it comes with a 6-foot cable and a 1/4″ jack. If you’re buying it as a gift for a piano player, double-check that the recipient’s instrument has a compatible sustain input.
M-AUDIO SP-2 Sustain Pedal A classic piano-style sustain pedal that works with MIDI keyboards, digital pianos, and synthesizers, with a natural pedal feel in a compact, portable footprint.
- Chrome foot pedal with a heavy-duty mechanism delivers realistic pedal action and lasting reliability
- Polarity switch makes it compatible with virtually all electronic keyboards
- Rubber pads on the underside grip the floor so the pedal stays put while you play
- Lightweight and ultra-compact for easy transport; includes a 6-foot cable with a 1/4" jack
6. Bonnlo Adjustable Piano Bench — For the Player Stuck on a Kitchen Chair
Posture comes up in nearly every lesson. A student perched on a chair that’s too low or too wobbly struggles with everything else, and I see it more than you’d expect, especially in home setups.
This Bonnlo bench adjusts from 19″ to 23″, so it can grow with a child or suit an adult. The padded faux leather seat wipes clean, and there’s a hidden compartment inside for books and sheet music. Assembly hardware and instructions are included. For a household that’s finally getting serious about practice, it’s a Christmas gift the whole family will use.
Bonnlo Piano Bench with Storage A black faux leather piano bench with a wooden frame, adjustable height, and a hidden storage compartment, sized to fit players from kids to adults.
- Height adjusts from 19" to 23", allowing players to find the best playing position at a piano, keyboard, or digital piano
- Built-in storage compartment holds sheet music, books, headphones, tuning tools, and other accessories
- Padded faux leather cushion stays comfortable through long practice sessions and wipes clean easily
- Solid wooden frame supports upright pianos, digital pianos, keyboards, and home music studio setups; measures 22.83" D x 13.39" W x 18.9" H
- Includes all hardware and instructions for assembly; classic black finish
7. Stelle & Hegen Music Book Clip — For the Page That Won’t Stay Put
Anyone who’s tried to keep a thick songbook open on a music stand knows the fight. Pages curl, the book snaps shut, and the student loses their place right when it matters.
This stainless steel clip slides 10 to 20 pages in, rather than wrapping the spine, so it holds anything from a slim method book to a hymnal. The rounded edges are meant to avoid creasing pages, and it arrives in a velvet pouch, which makes it an easy Christmas stocking stuffer. It’s small and inexpensive, and my students would use it every single day.
Stelle & Hegen Music Book Clip A stainless steel page holder that keeps piano books, hymnals, and songbooks open and flat so both hands stay free to play.
- Prongs slide 10-20 pages in to grip anything from a slim songbook to a thick hymnal; smooth rounded edges won’t tear or crease pages
- Leave 3-4 sheets beyond the outer prong to turn past a double page without removing the clip
- Corrosion-resistant stainless steel resists rust and warping; works with piano, keyboard, guitar, violin, and more
- Comes in a velvet pouch for storage and polishing, ready to give as a gift; available in Classic and Modern editions
- Compact at 4.75" W x 3" H and 2.08 oz, with an embossed treble clef
8. Meccaline Sheet Music Folder — For the Organized (or Soon-to-Be) Pianist
Loose pages and sagging binders are a hazard at recitals, and downright annoying during practice time or during a lesson. I’ve watched a whole piece slide off a stand more than once, and nobody enjoys that moment.
The Meccaline folder holds up to 80 letter-size pages in 40 sleeves, and the twin springs let it open a full 180 degrees and lie flat on the stand. Retaining strips cover only the top and bottom of each page, so you can pencil in fingerings right on the music. It also has a detachable name tag. For a performance season or a school choir, it’s a smart pick among Christmas gifts for piano players.
MECCALINE Sheet Music Folder A black spiral-bound folder that holds up to 80 pages of letter-size sheet music and lies flat on a music stand, with a design that lets you write directly on the pages.
- 40 sleeves display up to 80 letter-size (8.5 x 11") pages, far more than standard music folders
- Retaining strips cover only the top and bottom of each sheet, so you can write on the page directly
- Twin springs let the folder open a full 180 degrees and lie flat on a piano or music stand
- Detachable name tag helps you find your place or identify your folder; lightweight polypropylene construction
- Made in Korea; suited to students, orchestras, and school choirs
Finding the Right Gift
You don’t need to spend a lot to give a good gift. Think about how the person actually practices: late at night, on a shared instrument, or in a hurry before a lesson. That usually points to the right choice.
If you’re still stuck, start with a problem you’ve noticed. A bag, a light, or a better seat solves something real, and that’s what makes Christmas gifts for piano players worth giving. Pick one of these, and I think they’ll thank you in January.
