1. AmericanaFest – Nashville, TN

The Americana Music Association’s AmericanaFest is a massive multi-venue celebration, running strong since its establishment in 2000. Running September 9-13, this festival captures the essence of the Americana music scene, culminating with the prestigious Americana Music Awards at the iconic Ryman Theater, where the genre’s finest artists receive recognition.

During daylight hours, AmericanaFest operates as a comprehensive conference featuring panel discussions led by industry professionals and performing artists, plus an exhibit hall, luncheons, networking opportunities, book signings, and film presentations. After dark, the festival explodes with music showcases spanning over 50 venues, including Mercy Lounge, The Rutledge, The Station Inn, Hard Rock Cafe, and The Basement. More than 200 performers will take the stage throughout the four-day Americana festival, with headliners like Dwight Yoakam leading a diverse lineup that features Felicity Dowd, Dom Flemons, The Isaacs, Imogen Clark, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Rodney Crowell & Friends, and a tribute performance titled Other Voices: Songs for Nanci Griffith.

2. Healing Appalachia – Ashland, KY

Healing Appalachia, which takes place in Ashland, KY September 18-20, is more than an amped Americana music festival. It serves a deeper purpose as supporting the fight against the opioid crisis affecting the Appalachian region. This community-driven event joins music lovers and advocates to raise awareness about substance abuse while providing resources and funding for prevention, recovery, and support programs. While entertainment is a key element, the festival creates a powerful space where attendees can share stories, build connections, and foster unity. 

For 2025, attendees can look forward to an amazing line-up including Chris Stapleton, Molly Tuttle, The Infamous Stringdusters, Remi Wolf, Tyler Childers, Blackberry Smoke, American Aquarium, Desert Hollow, and Jesse Welles. Beyond the undoubtedly amazing shows, you can feel good about attending, as revenue will benefit recovery programs, reentry services, and education for individuals battling addiction.

3. Rhythm & Roots Reunion – Bristol, TN/VA

Bristol earned its title as the “Birthplace of Country Music” when iconic artists like the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers recorded during The Bristol Sessions in the 1920s. Founded in 2001, the Rhythm & Roots Festival celebrates this rich musical heritage, launching with performances by Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, Del McCoury, and numerous other musicians showcasing the finest in Appalachian roots, bluegrass, country, and indie sounds.

This three-day Americana celebration, scheduled for September 19-21, presents music across one indoor venue and three outdoor main stages, complemented by a dozen additional smaller performance spaces. The 2025 lineup showcases The Teskey Brothers, Lukas Nelson, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, The Band Perry, Steep Canyon Rangers, Sister Sadie, Ashley Monroe, and The Wildmans.

4. IBMA World of Bluegrass 2025 – Chattanooga, TN

Chattanooga, TN will be the new host for the nation’s largest, mega–bluegrass event. From September 16-20, the city will come alive with IBMA World of Bluegrass 2025—a full-blown conference, showcases, an awards ceremony, and a festival. From the 16-18, a business conference will allow attendees to network, attend workshops, and more, attend showcases, and hear the keynote address. Local venues such as Hi-Fi Clyde’s, Barrelhouse Ballroom, Songbirds, The Comedy Catch,  and Gate 11 Distillery will host some of the showcases of prominent and up-and-coming bluegrass and Americana acts. 

The outdoor festival, set for Friday and Saturday, will feature a star-studded line-up: Sierra Hull, The Wood Brothers, Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, Alison Brown, Jim Lauderdale & The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, Missy Raines & Allegheny, The Infamous Stringdusters, Sister Sadie, Michael Cleveland & Jason Carter, AJ Lee & Blue Summit, Mountain Grass Unit, and more. For the best of bluegrass in one of the top destination cities in Tennessee, this event should be on your checklist.

5. Bourbon & Beyond – Louisville, KY

Running during the second weekend in September, Bourbon & Beyond is a seven-year-old festival that draws 120,000 visitors to Louisville, Kentucky’s Highland Festival Grounds for a comprehensive experience blending rock and Americana music with culinary excellence and bourbon tradition. Attendees can participate in daily workshops and demonstrations led by celebrated chefs and master distillers, highlighting Kentucky’s finest bourbon selections. Key attractions feature the Kroger Big Bourbon Bar, Chris Picks MiniBar, and The Hunter’s Club, offering varied tasting opportunities.

Music performances span five stages covering numerous genres. This year’s lineup delivers exceptional headliners–iconic performers including Phish, Jack White, and Lumineers, alongside other contemporary favorites like Alabama Shakes, Megan Moroney, and Cage the Elephant. There’s also plenty of classic rock and pop acts Gen Xers can enjoy like Pat Benetar, Third Eye Blind, Foreigner, Ringo Starr and His All-Star Band, Blues Traveler, and Foreigner. 6. Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival – Franklin, TN

The Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival returns for its 11th year on September 27-28, 2025, in Franklin, Tennessee. Taking place at The Park at Harlinsdale, a sprawling 230-acre former horse farm, this Americana festival originated from the vision of Franklin musician and resident Kevin Griffin, who drew inspiration from the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Though that musical style remains present, the festival’s programming spans rock, alt-country, bluegrass, jazz, indie, and gospel genres. Attendees can experience both beloved artists and emerging talent performing across various stages.

This year’s featured performers include headliners John Mayer, Kings of Leon, Turnpike Troubadours, Grace Potter, Sam Grisman, Maggie Rose, American Aquarium, and Angel White. 7. 21st Annual Fall Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance – Pittsboro, NC

The town of Pittsboro, located west of Raleigh, North Carolina, serves as home to a 21-year-old roots music celebration that showcases exceptional Americana music and dance. The Shakori Hills Arts Center, which organizes numerous annual events including the Hoppin’ John Fiddler’s Convention and Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, presents this GrassRoots Festival with its vibrant lineup and educational workshops spanning several venues: the Meadow Stage, the Dance Tent, Carson’s Grove, and the Cabaret Tent.

Workshop offerings encompass diverse subjects from instrument tutorials to presentations on World Music, blues, reggae, and additional roots genres. Interactive experiences feature songwriter circles, live music yoga sessions, morning communion gatherings, musical instrument contests, and dance instruction in square dancing, Zydeco, clogging, and beyond. Previous headliners at this distinctive festival included Donna the Buffalo, The Wood Brothers, Cortadito, Lee Fields, Driftwood, Kaleta & Super Yamba Band, and Missy Raines & Allegheny. While the forthcoming artist roster remains to be announced, it promises to deliver exceptional performances! This outstanding Americana festival truly earns recognition as essential viewing.

8. Field & Stream Music Fest – Winsboro, South Carolina

For authentic country-style Americana in South Carolina, no fall 2025 event surpasses the Field & Stream Music Fest, taking place October 3-5 at Carolina Adventure World in Winsboro. Acquired by Eric Church and Morgan Wallen, this energizing gathering combines live music entertainment with outdoor adventure opportunities, enabling guests to participate in hiking, shooting, fishing, mountain biking, rafting, off-roading excursions, and additional activities.

More than 30 of country music’s biggest names will take the stage throughout the weekend, with primary headliners like Miranda Lambert, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Riley Green, Eric Church, and Bailey Zimmerman commanding the Main Stage. Additionally, the Silencer Central Stage, the Southern String Showdown, and Music Village Stages will showcase both veteran and emerging Americana performers prepared to deliver unforgettable performances. Attendees can cap off their nights with an exclusive Arrowhead Tavern After Party (though securing entry might prove challenging!).

9. Blue Highway Fest – Big Stone Gap, Virginia

While this festival may be among the youngest in our line-up (established in 2022), that doesn’t mean it can’t compete with the big guns in Southeast Americana music festivals. Founded with a goal of shining a spotlight on a region of Virginia that has struggled due to coal mining jobs shrinking, this music event aims to revitalize the area through the best that the bluegrass world has to offer. 

From October 8-12, get ready to enjoy the strains of Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, The Isaacs, Lonesome River Band, Beth Snapp, Ed Snodderly, Ralph Stanley II & The Clinch Mountain Boys, Blue Highway, Dark Moon Hollow, and dozens more artists. Writers rounds are also a staple of this growing festival. 

10. Suwannee Roots Revival – Live Oak, FL

The Suwannee Roots Revival ranks among several annual Americana festivals held at the expansive 800-acre Spirit of Suwannee Music Park beside the Suwannee River. This atmospheric Florida venue offers performance spaces, camping facilities, and “deep South” wilderness areas. Music and educational sessions will occur at the Amphitheater, the Music Hall, the Porch Stage, the Music Farmer’s State, and the Dance Stage Tent.

Running October 9-12, attendees can anticipate an engaging lineup featuring performers Melvin Seals, Steve Kimock, Jason Crosby, Tom Guarna, and Lamar Williams, Jr. Additional headlining acts include Yonder Mountain Spring Band; Donna the Buffalo; Peter Rowan & the Walls of Time Band; Della Mae; Ain’t Sisters; Henhouse Prowlers, and numerous other performers. This family-oriented Americana festival also provides a Kid’s Tent offering daily programming such as arts and crafts, juggling, yoga, family instrument lessons, and additional activities.

11. CaveFest – Pelham, Tennessee

There’s nothing like enjoying premier folk, bluegrass, Americana, and Old Time music in the unique setting of an underground cave!  The Caverns, situated at Monteagle Mountain’s base in Pelham, Tennessee, has emerged as one of America’s most sought-after performance venues and serves as the backdrop for the television series “Bluegrass Underground,” now called “The Cavern’s Sessions” to reflect its expanded musical scope beyond bluegrass. Those eager to experience these subterranean musical gatherings can do so during CaveFest, scheduled for October 11-12, 2025.

The artist roster is awesome – featuring all the bluegrass and Americana icons you’d anticipate, including Sam Bush, Tim O’Brien, Shadowgrass, Jim Lauderdale & The Game Changers, Lillie Mae, The Lost Bayou Ramblers, The Cowpokes, Linsay Lou’s All-Star Band, and HuDost, plus numerous additional performers. Additional event highlights include an open cave jam session, camping and glamping options, cave yoga and guided tours, plus a sound bath experience. While the televised performances occur in Big Mouth Cave, which seats 850 or accommodates up to 1,200 standing attendees, the surface-level Caverns Amphitheater can welcome crowds of 6,000.
